Will Medium Jump the Shark?

I hope not, but where’s the personal and evergreen content?

The way things are trending across the Internet and this site these days, I’m not surprised by the bullshit I’ve been seeing. One writer made fifty bucks last month and crowed like they’re the second coming of Stephen King.

I didn’t know that your first one-thousand dollar month jumpstarts a monthly Master Class. For $60.00 a pop, the latest guru will teach us how to increase our earnings, game the algorithms, and oh yeah, write like a pro.

Another writer professes they don’t have the courage to post personal stories. I wish they would. What we don’t need is more repetitive and regurgitated self-improvement.

I’m not against self-help, how to increase your earnings, humblebrags, or listicles. I’ve vented on this hangup before, pining for more personal reads. I get the boost your profits and become the better you content — to a point.

This brings me to the recent Medium Writers Challenge. I don’t agree with entries being eligible for writers who aren’t enrolled in the Medium Partner Program.

Sour grapes? I don’t think so. I’m not suggesting that my entry is any more viable. It wasn’t, according to the judges and that’s their decision.
